Trondheim Speed Walking Tour

This is an active excursion covering approximately five kilometres walking. Participants must be able to maintain a steady and relatively fast pace for an extended period. The tour is not suitable for wheelchair users or guests with limited mobility.

City walk at a fast pace

The tour starts at the quay and proceeds at a fast pace towards Stiftsgården, a large and stately wooden building that serves as the royal residence when the royal family visits Trondheim.

From there we continue across Torget i Trondheim, where the city’s founder, Olav Tryggvason, stands on his 18-metre-high column. From here it is a short walk to Nidarosdomen, Norway’s national sanctuary and one of the largest cathedrals in Northern Europe. Here we make a short stop to experience the cathedral both inside and out.

We then continue over Gamle Bybro, also known as the “Gate of Happiness,” before heading into Bakklandet. This charming area offers colourful wooden houses and lively cafés, and we also pass the world’s first bicycle lift, used during the summer months.

Along the route we follow Nidelva, known for its distinctive warehouse buildings painted in red, white, green and ochre. Today the area is filled with cafés and shops and is very popular among both locals and visitors.

Note: This is an active city walk at a fast pace, with short stops along the way, and is best suited for participants with good mobility and fitness. Access to Nidaros Cathedral and the Archbishop’s Palace may be restricted or unavailable due to religious services, religious holidays, or other events.
