Fjord views, wildlife, and one of Lofoten’s most famous sights.
In open sea we transfer to M/S Orca, which brings us close to nature and wildlife in the magical Trollfjorden. On the bright summer evening you travel into majestic scenery with a good chance of encountering the master of the skies; the white-tailed eagle.
In Raftsundet we change means of transport and board a smaller boat, MS Orca. The trip is suitable for most people, but you disembark from Havila Voyages to the tour boat in open sea.
The cruise into Trollfjorden takes us through a narrow and majestic fjord, flanked by steep mountain slopes carved by winter avalanches. This fjord can only be reached by boat. The dramatic landscape also offers stories from both living communities and abandoned fishing settlements. One of them is the story of when small traditional fishing boats collided with new steam-powered vessels in the battle for cod known as the Trollfjord battle.
Both Raftsundet and Trollfjorden are known for their large population of white-tailed eagles, the largest bird of prey in Northern Europe with a wingspan of up to 2.65 metres. When this giant with its characteristic “fingers” at the tips of its wings and its yellow, sharp talons passes overhead, you can understand the North Norwegian legend of the three-year-old girl said to have been taken by a white-tailed eagle.
The boat tour ends in Svolvær, where we board a Havila Voyages ship and continue our journey.
