Every six hours, up to 400 million cubic meters of water are forced through a narrow passage, creating roaring rapids and massive whirlpools up to 10 meters in diameter.

First, you’ll see the current from above as we cross the bridge by bus, before heading down to the water’s edge to experience the powerful water masses up close. The current varies with the tide, making each trip a unique experience. The strong whirlpools can be up to ten meters wide and four to five meters deep – a natural phenomenon you won’t soon forget.

Along the way, we’ll stop so you can see and photograph the swirling waters, before returning to the quay in Bodø and boarding the ship.

Please note that the strength of the currents depends on the tide and tidal activity, and levels cannot be guaranteed as they vary throughout the day. The times for the tides can be checked online before your visit.

Although the current varies throughout the day and the strongest whirlpools may not always be visible at the time of your visit, this excursion still offers a wonderful nature experience. The tour provides an opportunity to discover Bodø and the beautiful surroundings of Saltstraumen, with spectacular views of mountains, fjords, and the characteristic coastal landscape of Northern Norway.
