Thousands of islets and skerries, and an archipelago made for island hopping.
Nesna is just south of the Arctic Circle. This means it does not have the midnight sun, but the nights can still be as bright as the days. And the colour of the sky is often even nicer when the sun is just below the horizon than when it is shines brightly in the sky.
Seabirds also thrive here among the islets and skerries. One of the most charming is the puffin, also known as the sea parrot. Small and tubby, black and white and with a colourful beak. The little bird lives out in the sea during the winter, constantly hunting for food, but when the light returns, it comes back towards shore.
Since ancient times it has been said that this happens on the same day every year, and that day is considered the first day of summer.
