Mehamn

The end of the mainland: 234 metres of rock above the Barents Sea.

At 71° north, nature is in charge. It can be calm one minute and stormy the next, and a clear sky can change to fog in seconds. Steep cliffs plunge into the sea, while narrow expanses extend inwards.

The Sami bring the reindeer herd here for summer grazing, and there will be thousands of reindeer here among the, almost, 400 fishing lakes. If you do not catch any fish here, you can go fishing by boat from Mehamn.

This far north there is midnight sun for ten long, bright summer weeks. It is as bright at nights as it is during the day, and when the sun tickles the horizon, the sky is painted with wide brushstrokes in red, orange and yellow. This far north, you are also in Santa's neighbourhood at the North Pole, so it is no wonder that Mehamn has its own Christmas museum where you can spend the night surrounded by hundreds of elves.
