The westernmost town in the Nordics — small, spirited, and surrounded by islands.
At the far edge of the sea on the fjord coast, you can experience Norway's westernmost archipelago and the westernmost lighthouse in the country.
And even if you do not visit the lighthouse, you can see it flashing on the 50 kroner note. Further inland is a patchwork of islands and several skerries, many of which are connected by big and small bridges. Get on your bike and pedal through the idyllic archipelago in the summer, or try storm watching in severe winter weather.
Inland, the glaciers spread like eternal snowdrifts across the mountains. Europe's largest, the Jostedalsbreen (Jostedal Glacier), is king, but is accompanied by a number of large and small glaciers. Glaciers and peaks stretch up to 2,000 metres above sea level, and if you continue even further west, you will reach Norway's highest mountain, Galdhøpiggen that is 2,469 metres above sea level.
